Kariba South Extension Project Description: Engineering, Procurement and Construction of intake structure, power tunnel and two turbines with 150 MW power generation capacity each, underground powerhouse, surge chamber, tailrace tunnel and outfall structure.
Hwange Stage 3 Expansion Project Description: Engineering, Procurement and Construction of 2 x 300MW additional coal fired units and related auxiliaries at Hwange power station in Hwange, Zimbabwe. Integration with some of the current facilities on the existing Hwange Power Station is required.
The Zimbabwe Power Company appointed Hatch Africa (Pty) Ltd as Consultant (Owner’s Engineer) for the development of the Hwange Coal Thermal Power Plant and Kariba Hydro Power Plant Expansion Projects. The appointment will be for the total project execution and will entail the project review, through engineering, construction, and commissioning, until the end of the warranty period. The scope of these projects is to build 2 x 300MW thermal power plant units on the open area at Hwange Power Plant on the southern side of the existing unit 6. The extension project at Kariba South Power Station will add 300 MW additional generating capacity. The units will be housed in a separate underground powerhouse, with new intake tunnels from Lake Kariba, for utilising the water of the Zambezi River to generate peaking power.
